Web Works

Examples of website specific projects

Here are some of my web projects which have been focused on cross browser capabilities, accessibility and information architecture. All of the design elements have been created using Photoshop and Illustrator. Some projects are static sites constructed purely with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, whilst others utalise the functionality of PHP and mySQL.

  1. The Raid

  2. British Rock Band - The Raid Website.

The Raid are a 5 piece from Hemel Hempsted. Currently working on their first album recorded at Abbey Rd. The site is being rolled out over certain phases.

The primary aims of this site ranged from a bespoke audio player, an easy way to communicate with the band, register as a fan and to view photos, news and gig listings. For a smooth running site, the gallery is loaded through xml whilst the emailing and register system is achieved through PHP. More features will follow including a tailor made media player and games.

  1. Pixel Fuel Ltd

  2. A flash based site for my online media development company.

This flash site is as much about user experience as it is informative. The feel and control of the site is focused on the user enjoying the time spent viewing the information and navigating to the different sites and games.

This is achieved by creating a 3D navigation system which allows the user control of the sub navigation cubes which float around the screen. Once a cube has been selected it comes into view allowing the user to rotate and control the cube with the mouse and arrow keys.

The feel of the experience is enhanced by the sound which gives the user audio feedback in a manner that is complementary, not too intrusive. There’s nothing worse than a nice application with annoying repetitive sounds that make you reach for the mute button as soon as it’s loaded!

  1. Mauro Bonacina

  2. Website for the London based conceptual artist, Mauro Bonacina.

This site's primary focus is to display the artist's latest works. The design has been kept to a extreme minimum, keeping it clean and not to distract the eye from the pieces themselves.

  1. Twitter Search Application

  2. This application was my first venture into the world of Flex.

This is a nice little app that is very easy to create using Flex to be able to search for items that have recently been written in Twitter. Learning new skills through books and online tutorials are a daily part of my routine now, this application is a direct result of this.

  1. Video Game Culture Database

  2. This is a site created as an online videogame archive. The site has 3 types of users (admin, registered users and non registered users). All users have different areas they can can access with different writing capabilities. This database is created by the registered users to create a reference guide for all people with an interest in video games.

Please note that this site is not active therefore data entry cannot take place. When I have a few spare moments, this site will be launched, until then... patience!

  1. The Enzian

  2. The Enzian site was created as a fictitious project for a real world chalet based in Saalbach Austria. The main focuses for this site were cross browser compatibility and accessibility.

The site was designed to cater for the needs of the user group that would browse this sort of website. Most details are true regarding the Enzian but lets call the room and price specs artistic licensing!

  1. One Plai

  2. One Plai is a concept that was designed as part of a project for the Web Design and Development Diploma at Qantm College.

The product was a recyclable mp3 player that was made out of recyclable materials. The complete project consisted of the product specs, designs and the launch of the product itself. The website was built as part of the launch acting purely as a promotional site providing information regarding the product.

  1. thejksite version 1.0

  2. The old site (version 1.0) was used as a way of testing scripts and tools available to display different effects.

Shadowbox was used for the photo gallery which is great at displaying images without taking the user away from the website he/she is viewing. A flash media player was used to play short films I had created with iMovie.

The home page consisted of a television in the center of the screen flickering with interference until the user hovered over the navigation which magically displayed a preview of the page in the screen. This was all done simply through html/CSS and flash for the animation of the interference.
